July Adventure Trip

For our monthly adventure for July, we made a trip to Burnsville, NC. It was a beautiful drive. The front that came through at home came through here too....low humidity, clear skies, just beautiful. We are staying at the Buck House Inn B&B, a beautiful historic home a few miles from Burnsville.

A little relaxing in the yard. I did five miles this morning so I am tired! The fisherman did his thing last night and didn't get home until about 3 am. He is now napping in the comfy bed.

Does that not look so inviting? We decided to come here to see a play. Our choir director's son is working this summer at the Burnsville Playhouse and has a leading role in a play there.

In other news, my little quilt got rejected from Fons and Porter, but I sent pictures to another quilt magazine. Maybe they will like it :) but if not, that is ok. I like it.

Next Project

I'm still into designing quilts and came up with another one I want to make. I didn't want to buy anything so I decided to use some kiddie fabric scraps I'd saved and a large fabric piece, also from my stash.

It is going to be a bit more challenging since some of the blocks take about an hour to make. I guess I make up for it in the simple strip blocks though......I think it will make a cute, bright, toddler quilt.

...but for today, I'm snuggled up underneath one of my first and favorite quilts.....

Doing a little reading. We had friends over for lunch and enjoyed our afternoon very much, but now it's time to rest, relax, and count our blessings.

Day Trip

After church the fisherman and I went to Crossville. We ate lunch at th Cumberland Mountain State park restaurant. It was the best buffet food I'd ever eaten! The wait was about thirty minutes but it was worth it. We ate our lunch with a view of the river. Then we drove around a bit.

Crossville is a beautiful community, establshed by homesteaders.

In quilting news, I sewed up a small quilt on Saturday and did the quilting when we got back from our little day trip. Here is the pieced back.

I'm not showing the front yet, because I plan to send the pictures to a magazine as a submittal. Some of them are very picky about not posting pictures on the Internet.

I used three traditional blocks with some more modern fabrics. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will like it!

Saturday Sewing

Finished the massive quilt yesterday and today I made these to use as pillow shams....I think. Just put together some of the scraps.

Then I started a new little one. Probaboy going to be a baby girl quilt. Testing out a new design. This is only one of the block patterns. I've got two or three in the quilt.

Quilt Cave

Sometimes it reminds me of a cave. Especially when I keep the overhead lights off to reduce the temperature. It gets hot upstairs!

I worked on the large Edinburgh Square quilt today for a bit. One more column of blocks to go. I'm definitely loving it. My quilting room is due a good cleaning/organization day. Maybe after this big project I can take some time to do that.

Saturday doings

Did some house work, laundry, catching up...a little cooking.

Ever made a peach cobbler this way? Peaches on bottom, pieces of bread, then top with a mixture of sugar, egg, butter and flour. Pretty good

Then finished up all 64 blocks of my next project. I put my quilts together a bit different than most, I think. I chain piece the blocks in columns rather than rows. Sixty-four blocks (8x8) ends up being four columns. After I chain piece then I do the horizontal sewing on each column. I decided to put this one together using an ombré colors way, rather than randomly using the light and dark shades of blocks.

Quilt Guilds are Awesome!

Today was the Village Quilters Guild meeting. It is such a fabulous group of quilters. Some of the friendliest ladies I've ever met. And so informative......so much talent....I could go on and on. It is a large guild with many, many activities, workshops, classes, and an impressive community service group. After the meeting my friend and I went to a new members luncheon and had a great time visiting and getting to know some of the other newbies and board members. If you are visiting from there --hello! Glad you stopped by my blog!

During the show and tell time I showed my retirement quilt and the little one that is to be published in the magazine. Compared to the work of the other very talented quilters in this guild, it really isn't anything special or difficult, but I think it would appeal to someone wanting a quick and easy quilt to make. (BTW I do have permission from the magazine to publish pictures of it on the blog.)

These are very exciting days for me. I've learned so much lately about designing quilts through EQ and now I want to study up on color theory and value.

This evening, I've got it all packed up and ready to ship to Colorado tomorrow...

They told me they would make a style shot and a flat shot of it for the magazine and would send the pictures to me for my social media near time the magazine comes out.

Happy Fourth of July!

As is our tradition, we parked our vehicle on the road halfway down the hill earlier in the day and then went down for the fireworks. Here is one using our friends 3-D glasses...
Just a day of sewing and hanging around.....and playing with our new selfie stick....
I
I spend another seven hours or so on my next quilt today.....I have 36 blocks finished!
The best part of the day was when I got to see and hear my little granddaughter laugh and say, "I love you" and "Mamaw." So thankful for FaceTime.
