She didn't work out.....

Sissy has a new home. She didn't work out here. I hate it, but it was for the best. I told Jim I just wanted to enjoy little Jesse and am not ready for a new kitten. She had real issues. I still miss Jake.

Quick, for fun, project

I bought this kit last year at the quilt show in Nashville. I've done all I can do on my other project, until I get some material for the borders, so I decided to work on this little windowpane wall hanging. I haven't a clue how to quilt it. Any suggestions?

"Sissy" is her name

...at least for now. My husband insisted on another cat since Jake disappeared. I wasn't quite ready, but at the shelter....all those precious little animals. We intended on getting a female gray tabby, but this little girl stole our hearts with her loud purr.

New Project

I started my next project. The pic is just the little blocks layed out. I can't decide on the borders. What I have pictured is material from my stash. It would probably look better with a darker border. Jesse walked and slid across the blocks and got fiesty playing in them!

The Wedding

Well, the big day came and went. It takes lots and lots of work to pull a wedding off, but as all you mothers know - you do what you can to help your kids. I finally finished washing, drying and folding the 19 tablecloths we used for the reception. All that is left is take them back to the church and take the rental serving dishes back tomorrow. I am glad I scheduled another day off from work. I don't have any really good pictures yet. Here are just a couple. I let someone take pictures with my camera and the batteries went dead before she got a shot of the two of them.

Sad News

Jake is gone. Yes, gone. He was healing up so well; eating, drinking, playing. We were snuggled up in the bed during the thunderstorm last Sunday night. After it was over he wanted to go outside, like he often does. We let him. Bad move. He never came back. The little cat, Jesse, acted a little wierd last night, like he was afraid of something in the woods. Maybe he saw what happened. I suppose the big, bad, dog could have come back, or maybe a coyote. Jake was always ready to defend our property. We called him our cat-dog. Trouble was, when we got him, someone had removed his front claws, so he couldn't climb trees to escape trouble. I will never do that to a cat (again). I understand when folks intend for them to always stay inside, and some cats are happy with that. I did have Tasha's removed, intending for her to be an inside cat, and only after trying sitcky pads on the furniture (which she pulled off with her teeth), the water bottle, and everything else to get her not to destroy the furniture. Then when she just about destroyed our home, always trying to get out, we finally gave in and let her out, which she loved. But within a few years she went out one night and never returned. Coyote, I am sure.

All our neighbors know and love Jake. I think I am going to walk the neighborhood and look. Jim and I are very sad about losing our big, sweet, cat. However, my motto about animals has always been, "better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all."

Julia's Quilt

I finished the quilting on Julia's quilt. I sure hope she likes it. Her plans are to add a border all around so it will be big enough for her king-sized bed.

A pretty sight...

Yeah, I complained about how long this took, but it sure it is a pretty sight to see home canned goods in the cupboard!

Canning Beans....again

Maybe I am not doing this right. I mean, after all, this is only my second time to can beans. I started at 12:30 pm today, and I just took the last ones out of the canner, at 11:00 pm! I am now the proud owner of 26 quarts and 1 pint of green beans. Does it take everyone else this long using a pressure canner??

Jaw Pain

I am so tired of my teeth and jaw pain. Had quite a bit of dental work performed a few weeks ago. Teeth are still extremely sensitive. I've had jaw pain, neck pain, and headaches. Ive been to my doctor, missed work, had dental x-ray, and now have an appointment with an endodontist on Monday. The way I feel now, a root canal looks like a vacation. (I suppose I'll have to forgo a few years of vacations to pay for them!)....and oh yeah, my son's wedding is a week from tomorrow. Hope I don't look like a chipmunk or a druggie in the pictures.

Canning Beans

Jim kept saying, "we'll be glad this winter".....while we were breaking green beans for 2 1/2 hours last night. I know why so few people can anymore. It takes too long!! I started about 12:30 this afternoon, it is now 6:15 and I've only got 14 quarts done. I have 14 more to do!! Seven of them are in the canner trying to build up pressure. It takes about 2 1/2 hours to just do 7! Long night ahead....

Cabin fever

Poor Jake, he has cabin fever. He stands at the door and paws it, wanting to go outside so bad. His wounds are healing, but still open. We take him back to the vet on Monday, maybe he will give his approval for him to go out some.

Irish Chain

I've got this about half way loaded on the machine. It is my sister's quilt. I hope to get started on the quilting tomorrow. I am still indecisive about the thread to use. I keep thinking I need to use something to blend in for the center circle feathers since I am not that good, and then a blue/purple variegated for the colored squares...any suggestions??

What I've been doing....

Yes, there are about 18 packages of Sister Schubert's rolls on the counter.....I made 288 ham and swiss sandwiches for the wedding reception. Hope it's enough. They are baked and wrapped in foil, ready to thaw and warm for the wedding guests on July 18th.

Today's project

I took a day of vacation today since it was so pretty. I spray painted my outdoor furniture, but actually, am not that happy with it. It was an all day project, and took 5 cans of spray paint. Right now, I am wishing that I just spent the money for a new wicker table and chairs and didn't burn a day of vacation.

I did walk down at the lake today and it was so beautiful. Our little town really is so pretty. The city workers have mowed and trimmed all along the lake walking trail in preparation for the big 4th of July festivities.
