Baby Quilt

I quilted this one for a friend. This friend has been battling cancer for about 19 years. She is what you'd call a lifer. She is such an inspiration. She made this one for her future grandson. She made one in our quilting class at church a couple of years ago for her future granddaughter. As of now only one of her three children is married and no grand babies are on the way.

Now she has something special made for her first grandson and first granddaughter. They will have it whether she gets to meet them this side of heaven or not.

 

Saturday Sewing

Finished the massive quilt yesterday and today I made these to use as pillow shams....I think. Just put together some of the scraps.

Then I started a new little one. Probaboy going to be a baby girl quilt. Testing out a new design. This is only one of the block patterns. I've got two or three in the quilt.

 

 

A finish!

I finished the quilting on the small quilt. I suppose I will use it for the baby girl gift, but I did purchase her some little pink outfits. She is coming into a family with four brothers so she needs some pink.

In other news....we had a couple of wild visitors last night.

Inside the garage! I opened the door for him and he finally went out. Then on the screened porch a little beggar looking for cat food.

Today Mr. Slithers was still "hanging" around. We believe him a rat snake and since we like rats less than we like snakes, he gets to live.

Here are a few of us in the quilting group at our church, with some of our baby quilts we made for Newborns in Need.

Most in the group are beginners. The pattern we chose to teach was a good one to start out with.

 

 

Quilt Guild Friday

I joined a quilt guild last month and today was my second meeting to attend. I am so impressed with this group. I signed up for a contemporary art quilt workshop with Pat Pauly as the instructor. Evidently she is world renown for her work. I am on the wait list so I won't get in unless about five people have to cancel. Below are a couple of the samples she sent for the guild to show.

I also started messing with small scrap pieces. I'd like to make a modern baby quilt like the nine block bright birch trees by Crazy Mom Quilts. I noticed she has the pattern for sale in Connecting Threads. I'd like to try my own version.

There are so many opportunities to learn new things, meet new people, and support worthy causes, being associated with a guild. Are you in a quilting guild?

I got in a great run yesterday at my favorite trail. 5.24 miles. Yeah for spring and warmer weather!

 

 

Hour Glass Quilt

First, let me say, I LOVE doing these horizontal loops for the quilting. I was looking for some kind of quilting that wouldn't require going over those humps where the points meet. I had seen this method on my favorite quilting blog, Crazy Mom Quilts. I used my long arm, because I can't not use it, but she did this method on a table top machine. I think my beginning quilting friends could use this method.

I also tried a new method for machine binding. I found this method on the Red Pepper Quilts blog.

I had to pin all around, which I did not like. I messed up some, but like most things it will take practice.

Sunday Sewing

Earlier this week when I was bored with cabin fever, I cut out a little hourglass quilt from scraps and stash. I sewed all the little blocks up today. What do you think?

This is a pattern from Allison Harris of Cluck, Cluck, Sew. (I have a link to her blog on the right) I like the way she has you make these blocks, because it requires you to square them up. I think they are purposely made just a tad big. I've never been good at squaring up so I do like it when the pattern requires it.

This is one I'll keep in my collection for when I need a baby girl gift. Oh yeah! I want to do a shout out to AnneBright.com. They are awesome! I saw some beautiful qulting using their digital design called Slip and Slide. I loved it even though it was a simple curvy line repeat. I'm just not that good doing custom quilting without a pantograph and since I don't have a computerized long arm, I asked if they had it in a paper version. They did not but THEY MADE IT FOR ME! Seriously, they did. It is now on their website in a paper pantograph. Can't wait to get it and use it for this little quilt. Talk about customer service! Check them out.

One more picture....homemade chocolate milkshake, using Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream, some milk, and a couple squirts of chocolate syrup. This is becoming a nightly habit....Oh my goodness, so yummy.

Exciting Day

Today was a special day for the hubby. He retired!

 

Of course it was a fishing themed party...

 

...and he already has plans for us tomorrow. In other news, while I was bored this week I cut another baby quilt out of scraps and stash.

Going to be a simple hourglass block design.

And here's my grand baby girl....she has learned to climb now. She likes to climb into this chair. At 12 months, she walks, she runs, she climbs! Can't wait to see her again!

 

 

Linking to finish it up Friday

I purchased this little toddler quilt kit and made it up in just a few hours. The pattern is called Child's Play but I would have never purchased it because it was made up in Halloween prints. I really liked this version.

I also made this sweet pillowcase for my grand girl.

Decided to make the hubby one of those no sew fleece blankets for a Valentine's present.

So soft and cuddly. I really liked it and he did too. He doesn't mind that the fabric is a little girly. Also the big kitty loved it.

...and I'll leave you with something yummy. This is an old recipe from one of my favorite people who passed away several years ago. Yummy and hearty!

 

Quilting class

This little quilt is what we will be making in our next quilting class. I wanted to pick something very easy for a beginning quilt maker. Hopefully we will have a few newbies want to give it a try.

Second finish for 2015

I think I'm on a roll here. Love this quick quilt. It is from the book Growing up Modern by Allison Harris. Her blog is Cluck Cluck Sew.

I'm still trying to be very frugal with my quilting. Everything came from my stash/scraps but the navy and striped binding. Love the punch the binding brings.

This will go to the new born daughter of one of my co-workers. Due in March.
