More Edinburgh

My time here is drawing short. Just some more random photos.....

It has been very difficult to get good pictures of Emma. The lighting inside isn't the best, I didn't bring my good camera, and she is usually very bundled up when we are outside. And she is ALWAYS on the move, so they all turn out blurry!

Edinburgh Christmas 5k

It was cold, windy, and dreary this morning but my son took me to Inverleith park for the 5k. It started to rain once we got there and then it was sleeting!

I told him if it didn't stop soon I just wanted to go back to the flat. He said the weather changes so fast to just hold on.....so we did. And it did. The sun came out and the rain/sleet stopped. It was still chilly at about 40 degrees with a wind, but not bad at all.

No records set today. They didn't use the chip timing system and only had awards for the top three for female and male. But everyone got a medal, and a goody bag,

My garmin time was 35:11, about average for me.

...but it is exciting to have a medal And a t-shirt from a race so far from home.

My sweet daughter in law had a yummy meat loaf about ready when we got home. And I am looking forward to spending the day with this little monkey.....

Day trip to England

We took a train, then a bus, to Alnwick, England, today. Emma did pretty good for such a long day trip. It was beautiful. This first picture is of the castle there.

We went to the biggest used bookstore in the UK. It was in the old Alnwick railway station.

This picture tells the story of the station and lists the names of all those who worked there over the years.

I did get a picture of Greyfriers Bobby last night in Edinburgh. The story is the owner of the establishment passed away and his dog, Bobby, never left his graveside until he too passed away 14 years later.

Supposedly if you rub the nose of Bobby's status, you'll have good luck....or something like that. You can see the black has been rubbed off on him.

..but the best part of this trip is this....

Scotland - part 3

Here are some more pictures from the Edinburgh castle. Yesterday was St. Andrew's day, evidently a national holiday. The castle was open free to the public. Pretty good deal. It is normally 18 pounds a piece admission.

In the picture below you can see the activities of the Christmas fair - the big wheel thingie. These were taken from up in the castle.

Running in Edinburgh

Had a nice run this morning at The Meadows. It is only a couple minutes walk from Elijah and Katie's flat.

This is where I ran today. Relatively slow jog, but I didn't worry about my heart rate. It was in the 150s most of the time. I've given up on the MAF training. I just didn't see any progress.

I've decided to try to slow it down a lot, and see if that will help me build my aerobic base.

Scotland part 2

We ventured out to the Royal Mile, Holyrood Palace, Edinburgh castle. Saw a female bag piper, some other street performers, and took an audio tour of Holyrood. Elijah took me into the library at New College. We saw St. Giles cathedral and the original Greyfriers Bobby. Beautiful old city. Lots of walking. Enjoy the pictures.

The courtyard of new college, I think.

Scotland

I arrived safely this morning. Elijah and I took the bus (sat in the upper level, front row) to a stop about a 15-20 minute walk to their flat. Saw lots of beautiful old buildings.

The below building is where Elijah attends school. Fabulous, isn't it?

Reading to my baby girl. Love this baby!

Nothing new

No sewing to show. I did cook a thanksgiving-like dinner for the hubby tonight since I won't be here on thanksgiving day.

The two cats seem to be doing a bit better. They are staying in the house together on cold days while we work and today, they actually slept together on the bed.
And my little happy girl is saying, "Mamaw, hurry up and get here!"

We met my brother, sister-in-law and their two boys, and a girlfriend, for dinner the other night. We had a nice time visiting. Even though they live fairly close, we don't get together very often.

And Emma says, "only six more sleeps, and my Mamaw will be here."

Goin' to see my baby girl!

I am going. Yep, to Scotland. Edinburgh specifically. The awesome thing about it is, I get to see my grand girl Emma! The hubby is holding the fort down on this one. I'll check out the accessibility conditions there so we can determine if he will be able to go next year with me. He has a bad leg (polio) that really limits the amount of walking he can do.

So, I did some practice packing today. Love those space bags! From this:

To this:

I've really got to compact my things, because I am trying to take them some things they need, like Elijah's bagpipes. Every good Scot has got to play the bag pipes, right?

And... since I am going to be there for two weeks, and they have a Christmas 5k, I signed up!

My first "destination" race.

I am so thankful that the hubby has earned a lot of travel bucks this year. He is letting me use some for my trip. He's a nice guy like that.

Souper Saturday

Roasted vegetable rosemary chicken......hope it's good.

This recipe was a Cooking Light category winner a few years ago. Also made the hubby his favorite chocolate cake for his birthday tomorrow. Then I decided to make up some S.O.S. mix -- soup or sauce. I've never tried it before but ran across the recipe and had all the ingredients.

I did a very cold 5k this morning. Improved my time a bit even though I placed fourth of four in the 50-59 age group. I am pretty sure I was the oldest woman participant. Glad I did it.
