Over fifty fashion

I follow a fashion blog or two and sometimes I get some good ideas for what to wear. One blogger used the Pinterest picture on the left for inspiration for an outfit. So did I.

The tan/beige isn't good with the gray hair. Maybe I'll add a teal scarf rather than the animal print. I do like the sweater. I found it on sale at JCPenney and with my reward points it only set me back $3.28. The scarf is one I recycled. The pants are capris I had, along with the white t-shirt and boots. Do you ever look to Pinterest for fashion ideas? I think it is kind of fun to get ideas and see if you can reproduce the look with what you already have.

New life for old scarves

I've had these old scarves for around 12-15 years. Tonight I realized how easy it would be to make them into infinity scarves.

Just sew them end to end but place a right side against a wrong side. Wallah!

New stylish infinity scarves.

Hemming jeans the boutique way

A few months ago I purchased some designer jeans. They were a bit long so the store hemmed them for me. They did it in a way that preserved the white stitching and the worn edges (you know the style). I had a couple more pairs of jeans that were fine for the winter with heeled boots, but too long for summer flats. I decided to hem them like the boutique did.

If they are an inch too long, you fold over the edge above the hem, one half inch and pin.

Then you sew the fold down on the top side. I used monofilament thread, which was perfect because it disappeared against the jean fabric.

When finished, you have a little fold on the inside of your jeans but the outside looks great and the fold is not visible. The white stitching and worn edges are preserved.

Refashioned sweaters

I read about how to do this and wanted to give it a try.

Start with a pullover sweater.

Cut it down the center. Then cut two pieces of fabric about two inches wide and an inch or so longer that the sweater.

Pin it to the sweater edge right sides together and sew it using a 1/4 inch seam.

Fold the trim on the under side of the sweater edge and sew it down. Finished!

I tried a little different technique on the purple sweater. I cut my strips a little wider.

then folded them so a little strip of the fabric would show.

Sewed it down.

The top edges were a bit tricky. I ended up having to hand sew some on the back to get them to lay down. Now I have two little cardigans from a couple of too small sweaters!
