The Wedding Quilt

Here are a few more pictures of the wedding quilt I made for them. I hope you can see their names in the corners and the label I put in.

Wedding Shower

Today was the day for the wedding shower I helped give for Katie. I can finally show more of my latest project! The cake was so cute. A pic of the cake, me and my mom, Katie and Elijah's Mamaw Hixson and the quilt she made for them, and Katie and the quilt I made for them.

My mom pulled this picture out recently and I just love this one of her and Dad. It was their wedding photo in June of 1946. She was 17 and he had just turned 28. She sure is pretty, isn't she? He's not bad either!

Sneek peek

This is my latest project. And what a booger it is!! I had to change my quilting design in the white squares...after I had quilted 6 of them! I started with circle feathers. Small one in the center and a larger one with only the feather leaves on the inside. I learned that if you can't make a precise circle and you only have the leaves on the inside your eye is drawn to the lopsided circle. I ended up filling the square with more feather leaves. It seems to take away from the once dominant uneven circle. I used a template to draw it perfectly, I just can't run the machine over the line perfectly!! I have so much to learn!

Baby Quilt

Today was one of those great, busy, busy Fridays. I bought the fabric for a baby quilt. It was supposed to match some Nauticakids accessories. I did my best. Anyway, got the fabric, sewed it up, quilted and bound it! All that is left is to put the label on. What do you think Tina? Also, I dyed some shoes today to match my dress for the upcoming wedding. They did great! I just have to spray them with something before I wear them so I don't have blue feet. And, I sent the email out for the shower plans, sent the last two pics to my brother for the wedding DVD, and cooked a good dinner for Jim and I. Roast with carrots, potatoes, onions, celery, green beans, and pineapple angel food cake for dessert. I love to cook almost as much as I love to quilt.

I decided to go ahead with the borders I had cut. I think it works fine.

This is the latest project. Was going to be a fall wedding gift but I've decided on something else for that one. My question is? I haven't sewn the borders on yet; they are not from the same line of fabric, but.....I tend to like to mix fabrics. Some of the smaller prints had lots of roses with the green and burgundy so I picked this one. I'm just not sure about it. What do you think???

My "cottage" bedroom

I found some very pretty bedding, on sale of course, and I think I have a good start on getting the "cottage" look for our bedroom. I am pleased with it, although I need a few accessories and have some work to do on the valences.

Quilt of Valor (QOV)

This is a really pretty QOV quilt that will go to a female soldier. Pieced by MJ and sent to me for machine quilting. It is a great organization of quilters who donate their talents to make special gifts for those who put themselves in harms way protecting our freedoms.

Back to sewing

I was able to get some sewing done today after a few weeks off. The two blue and yellow log cabin blocks are for a block drawing with the quilt guild and the other pic shows my progress on the 4-patch fusion quilt I am making.

Not much sewing lately

I haven't done any sewing in about 3 weeks! Elijah and Katie have been home the last two weekends, and today I spent getting ready for a trip I have to make tomorrow. I did get a new little netbook computer so I will be able to keep up emails, the blog, and facebook while I am away. Maybe I can send you pics of where I am going!

It's Official

It's official! Elijah starts his new job on Monday! This is truly such a wonderful answer to our prayers. The guy is going to let him work around his school schedule but he could get 40 hours a week! He only had to drop one class, so he is still carrying 9 hours, which is fulltime for the master's program he is in. We are just so very thankful to a God who hears our prayers and answers them in such an amazing way.

Next Project

This is a pic of my next project. It will be a gift for later this fall. I am using Moda's Madiera charm squares and using Heather Moulder Petersons pattern, "4-patch fusion". I am not sure if my borders are going to look ok. I couldn't find a large print in that fabric line, so I picked something else. I love the way she quilted it, and believe that I will be able to duplicate the quilting.

Answered Prayer

It looks like Elijah is going to have a job at a chemical plant!! It isn't a chemist position, but it is a job!!! Thank you Lord! It is unofficial yet, but he has talked to the president of the company, who wanted him to send him his school schedule so they could work around it. What a blessing!! Thanks to all of you who have been praying with me about this!

Jim and I are back from our little trip to the mountains. It was very nice, but there's no place like home. I've had a wonderful 50th birthday!!
