Memorial Day

Let us never forget those who gave their all to defend our freedoms, rescue the oppressed, and fight against terrorism. Have you ever made a Quilt of Valor? I've quilted several that were pieced by others. I found a couple of beautiful patterns for patriotic quilts.....

We have had some gorgeous weather the last few days. Yesterday the fisherman and I drove to Oneida for a centennial reunion for the local high school. Packed a picnic lunch and ate it at the park there.

First time we've used our denim picnic quilt I made a few years ago.

He visited with some of his old classmates.

The flowers are doing well in this beautiful weather.

The cats love it....

However, they continue to hunt...one brought in this flying squirrel the other day. They are fascinating but it's head is just like a rat....yuck.

...and this is what I am doing this afternoon....chillaxin and ipadding.....

Hope all of you enjoy Memorial Day weekend but don't forget those we honour on this day. Say a prayer for our country while you are remembering those we've lost.

 

 

Linking to finish it up Friday

I purchased this little toddler quilt kit and made it up in just a few hours. The pattern is called Child's Play but I would have never purchased it because it was made up in Halloween prints. I really liked this version.

I also made this sweet pillowcase for my grand girl.

Decided to make the hubby one of those no sew fleece blankets for a Valentine's present.

So soft and cuddly. I really liked it and he did too. He doesn't mind that the fabric is a little girly. Also the big kitty loved it.

...and I'll leave you with something yummy. This is an old recipe from one of my favorite people who passed away several years ago. Yummy and hearty!

 

Swoon quilt, cat, and corn

I thought I'd post some better pictures of my swoon quilt. I am still not that crazy about it....

...so I don't have it on the bed but in this stack on my grandmothers chest.

Gray Beard is the new cat. He is so affectionate, but he and Jesse still don't get along.

I went to the farmers market this morning and got some summer veggies. Yum.

Three pretty good size bags of creamed corn from 13 ears. This year I used a different method. Shuck, silk, wash, dry, cut off and put in vacuum bags. I'll season it when it is cooked.

Since it was going to be just the two of us today, we decided to head for the mountains early this morning.

We saw about 40 turkeys, and probably about 30 or so deer. The horses were sleeping standing up. That was wierd, like they were frozen in time. There were only ten cars in Cade's Cove. Hardly no traffic this morning on any roads. It was nice to do a little something different on Christmas morning.

Spa quilt

I think the colors are soothing in this one, and since it is in the bathroom, I'm calling it my spa quilt.

Pebbles are tiring to quilt....

Another project I made today....so many big UT fans around here, I thought it might go over well at our church auction tomorrow.

....Jim and Jesse enjoyed the afternoon....together....

It is such a beautifully cool day today, I pulled out my camera, went outside, and took some photos of my furry little model. He makes me smile.

Wild Turkeys

Take a look at these big boys!

I think it is mating season for them. They were guarding their girls and doing the loud "gobble, gobble!"

......in our back yard......in a subdivision that backs up to the woods.
