Inspired

Sometimes all it takes to inspire some creativity is to be alone and think. I've been wanting to make a new quilt pattern and have had my eye on some of the beautiful shadow quilts I've seen on Pinterest. I wanted to make my pattern a little different so it would truly be my own. My inspiration came yesterday while doing this......

I haven't been on the paddle board much this summer and decided yesterday to go out. Nothing like a little vitamin D, enjoying God's creation, and some solitude to renew your mind.

So....when I came home I worked on the design.....

It isn't final, but I have a good idea of where I want to go with it.

I have a theory......those of you who blog, would you consider yourselves introverts? My guess is a majority of casual bloggers are introverts. Why? Because we like our alone time, we don't always do well in conversation, and are much more comfortable writing out our thoughts....so, are you? (More of my thinking as I was on the lake yesterday...lol) Have a great day, ya'll!

Love my Monday's off

Yep, I do. Love not working on Mondays. I spent the morning doing stuff for mom and then really needed to get outside. It was too hot and humid to run, but perfect for paddling. Put in between the bridges and took a nice trip along the edge up the river.

Paddled by the steam plant. I could hear the cyclic hum of the power lines. Saw some beautiful homes along the banks. I was trying to figure out where these houses were, so I took out my phone and looked on google maps. The blue dot is about where I turned around. It took me approximately 35 minutes to paddle there from where I put in between the bridges.

...and this was my view on the way back. It is always neat to go under bridges. Hardly no boats in the water today. I figured all the beautiful lake homes are owned by older folks who can't get out to enjoy them, or younger folks who work during the week. Not many people out enjoying their lake. Glad I was able to.

Good day off celebrating the first day of summer.

First day to paddleboard!

It was the perfect day for this.....

Just look how calm the water is....

A little workout, a little relaxing....Then who do I meet on the lake??

The fisherman was doing what he loves......

....while I enjoyed being able to paddle in the middle of the lake with hardly no boat traffic...I do practice safety. Have my life jacket, something to drink, water shoes, and a whistle, all tucked inside the handy cargo net.

This little setup only takes about six minutes to put on and load the board.

I am extra cautious with my phone. I have the Lifeproof case, but I also use this little waterproof case with a neck strap. Doesn't make that great of pictures through it and the sound is a little muffled but that is ok. I normally sit down and take it out when I want to shoot some photos or talk on the phone.

I worked really hard yesterday power washing both porches, all the porch furniture, cleaning all the outside lights, and planting flowers, basil, and tomatoes. So today was a lake fun day, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. A good reward for my labor.

2014 Year In Review

Not much quilting this year.....

...a lot of running...two half marathons, eight 5ks...

...started a new hobby....

.....A couple of great trips....

...and absolutely the biggest excitement and blessing of the year was my new granddaughter....

Sunday paddling

Went to a new place today after church. The water is getting cooler and I don't know how much longer I'll get to paddle board, so I'm trying to take advantage of the nice weekends.

Beautiful. Peaceful. God's creation.

Labor Day Weekend

I has been a nice active Labor Day weekend. Friday I took the paddleboard to a new place, an older lakeside neighbourhood.

It was fun to pass under this little bridge.

Then we put the board on the boat Saturday and took it to a friend's house. At one time I had a 9 year old, 7 year old, and 2 year old on the board with me. They all had a great time. I got to eat shrimp boil with them at their lake lot. Jim fished in a nearby cove while I was socializing and having fun. Fun day.

We went to church, and rested on the rainy Sunday. Perfect weather for a good long nap. Too bad I can't nap, but Jim enjoyed a nice one.

Today, Jim fished again and after I got in my three mile inside run, I paddle boarded again. I went to another new place, and met my friend there. She was a great sport and tried it.

She had a good time. She wanted to stand and started to, but decided she needed to get used to it a bit more first. She wants to do it again!

It was a beautiful day.

Then I got to see some neat pictures of my kids new home town, Edinburgh.

Of course I like the one below the best.....

Then, since after all, it is the first day of September......I decided to change out my summer quilts for the fall ones......

No sewing, but a very active weekend.

Sunday paddle boarding

I took one of our young friends out on the paddle board today. I think she enjoyed it.

She was a little worried about being in water over her head although she is a good swimmer, and wore the life jacket. I kept reassuring her that with the life jacket she would be fine if we fell in. We almost fell once but managed to keep our balance.
