Grandchildren

My son and his family came home for a short visit this week. I was blessed with baby sitting my granddaughter for the night while they celebrated their five year anniversary at the beautiful B&B they stayed in on their wedding night. I know they enjoyed their time away as short as it was.

I sure enjoyed having my sweet girl....

This baby is such a blessing. She is always so happy. When she wakes from a nap that little face is smiling. In the night, when she woke up and I went to her, in the twilight I could see that happy grinning face. This is her upon waking from her nap.

I'm trying to soak her up.....they move to Edinburgh, Scotland in less than a month.

Favorite Quilts

Of the many quilts I've made.....

...it seems my favorites always end up being....

The ones made from shirt scraps....

Maybe because I know the men who wore those shirts.....

....maybe because they represent frugality. Making something useful out of something tired and worn.

...my son and husband contributed to the above quilts, along with several men who passed away....

...and some men whose wives, wanting to rid their closets of old, worn shirts, donated them to the local Goodwill store. Or, at least I imagine that is how they ended up there....

...so yes, those are my favorites. I see them as timeless. What are yours?

Super Moon

My late night pics of the super moon......first up, without the zoom....

Next is with the zoom....

....and finally cropped to show all it's glory.....

Pretty cool, huh?

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above his handiwork. Psalm 19:1

Swoon quilt, cat, and corn

I thought I'd post some better pictures of my swoon quilt. I am still not that crazy about it....

...so I don't have it on the bed but in this stack on my grandmothers chest.

Gray Beard is the new cat. He is so affectionate, but he and Jesse still don't get along.

I went to the farmers market this morning and got some summer veggies. Yum.

Three pretty good size bags of creamed corn from 13 ears. This year I used a different method. Shuck, silk, wash, dry, cut off and put in vacuum bags. I'll season it when it is cooked.

Active Friday

After running a very slow and hot 4.8 miles, I wanted to cool off in the lake with a little paddling. Check out these beautiful pictures,

I went to a new lake access park built by TVA, as part of the ash spill cleanup. Loved it. It was deserted, the water was smooth and calm, and it was very peaceful for some great paddling.

Packed up and ready to go home.....

Sunday paddle boarding

I took one of our young friends out on the paddle board today. I think she enjoyed it.

She was a little worried about being in water over her head although she is a good swimmer, and wore the life jacket. I kept reassuring her that with the life jacket she would be fine if we fell in. We almost fell once but managed to keep our balance.

Independence Day 5k

Some co-worker friends and I ran the One Nation Under God Independence Day 5k this morning in Sweetwater. The weather could not have been more perfect and the course was flat, a great combination. However no PR for me. Not sure what I am doing wrong. The aura of a migraine started before I got to mile two. I didn't get the headache until about 20 minutes after the race.

Even though no PR, I am ok with my results. Fourth of fourteen.

I wish they had broken out the ages like most races do, then I would have placed first in the 55-59 group! My 62 year old running friend got first place again. She has won every race she has entered.

Not sure what happened with this picture....but I like it anyway. I loved this race. They opened with a prayer and a very talented lady sang the Star-Spangled Banner. Then afterwards they presented the gospel of Jesus Christ. The proceeds go to Young Life, which I think, is a Christian organization for young people.

I didn't get to stay for the awards due to the busting headache. By the time I got home I was pretty sick, but some Tylenol helped, and later when I was smart enough to take the migraine headache medicine, that helped more. Just felt a little drained all day....but still a great day and so much to be thankful for on this Independence Day.

Small town 4th of July

Lots of folks come to town for our annual Fourth of July festivities.....

The homes in the down town area show their patriotism....

Lots of people come by boat.....

My handsome husband and I took a ride around town to see the sights. There was live music, games for the kids, food vendors, politicians, and much more over at the city park. We couldn't get too close without having to walk so we skirted around the main festival area just riding through. Fireworks over the lake will come at dark.

Seen through the eye of the lens....hope you are enjoying this beautiful Fourth of July holiday in your hometown!

Quick and easy project

Whipped this little Ohio star quilt up in no time this morning.

I've been wanting a barn quilt for the front porch but this will do until I can get one made. Any of you have any Fourth of July projects you are doing this week?
