First, let me say, I LOVE doing these horizontal loops for the quilting. I was looking for some kind of quilting that wouldn't require going over those humps where the points meet. I had seen this method on my favorite quilting blog, Crazy Mom Quilts. I used my long arm, because I can't not use it, but she did this method on a table top machine. I think my beginning quilting friends could use this method.
I also tried a new method for machine binding. I found this method on the Red Pepper Quilts blog.
I had to pin all around, which I did not like. I messed up some, but like most things it will take practice.
Look at that wonderful texture!
I am very happy with my little "cabin fever" quilt. I've linked up with Confessions of a Fabric Addict. Go check out all the great projects there.
I love machine binding and use it almost exclusively! It take me forever to do hand binding and only an hour or two to get it done by machine.
ReplyDeleteI wrote a tutorial on how I do it, you can see it here: http://blog.petitdesignco.com/2012/10/binding-with-walking-footpart-1.html
It's probably pretty similar but you might pick up something that might make it a bit easier.
Oh thank you! I am wanting to learn how to do it well. I don't mind hand sewing th binding down but it takes so long.
ReplyDeleteYour quilting looks wonderful. So glad you gave the machine binding tutorial a try. I really enjoy Crazy Mom Quilts blog too. I am pretty sure she had some machine binding tutorials as well.
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely beautiful. I like to see binding sewn by machine...it's my fav way to do it!
ReplyDeleteOh that is so lovely. I am always looking for baby quilt patterns that are relatively easy as I seem to come across so many people having babies. Thanks for your beautiful quilt and pics!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt, Rachel, I love the colours.
ReplyDeleteCan you fit a seam guide to your machine? They are a Godsend when it comes to binding. You might find this helpful:-
