No sewing, no running

The hubby caught some nasty cold/viral thing on his recent business trip. We thought he was pretty much over it by Sunday night when I got home from my trip to visit Emma. Well, evidently he was still contagious. Now I've got it. Yuck! Starts with a scratchy throat, continues with coughing and congestion, and no energy. I've slept more today than I have in years. I am hoping I'll get some energy back tomorrow.

I finally got dressed today but didn't make it to the grocery store. Just moved from the bed to the recliner. I am so behind in my half marathon training. I might have to do a lot of walking in the race if I don't get back to my training. I absolutely hate not being able to run on a gorgeous sunny day like today.

More Emma

I made a quick trip back to Louisville to see the kids and Emma. She sure is a sweetie pie!

My heart melts when she makes that little smile.

Smitten

How appropriate that she was born so close to valentines day, because I am absolutely smitten with her!

She's here!

Waiting on Emma

I headed to Louisville Friday afternoon because we thought they were going to induce Katie. Her blood pressure has been pretty high. Her due date was on Friday.

...but they ended up sending her home on bed rest, however they did tell her to go have a good meal....

..so we obliged and had a nice steak dinner. She had to go back to the hospital today for a BP check, and again they sent her home. The plan now is to be induced early Monday morning. Hopefully we will meet little Emma soon.

I was able to get in my long run this morning at the indoor running track. Ten miles doing 4/1 intervals. My farthest distance in my training for the upcoming half marathon. I really like those long runs, they just take so long, 1:52:49.

Maverick stars

Love, love love these wonky stars. Found this free pattern on Quiltville.com. I keep my scraps and you can imagine after making over 130 quilts I have a LOT of scraps. I thought about purchasing a block of the month to keep me working on something interesting, but really didn't want to pay the price for one. This little pattern is a perfect block of the month project for me. I want to make it a queen size bed quilt so it will take me a while. The blocks finish at 6 1/2 inches square.

I love that you just separate your lights from darks and randomly place the little crumb pieces for the star points. I love that you can make them as wonky as you want and you don't have to worry about matching them. And of course, I love that I am going to have a new bed quilt using scraps from all my projects -- batiks, thirties, florals, solids, shirt pieces, baby fabric-- you name it, it is in there!

So......so much for cleaning up my sewing room yesterday...ha ha.

If I make 20 of these a month, in a year I'll have enought for a nice bed size quilt. Stay tuned, I think it will be beautiful.

Homemade chicken pot pie

This is one of our favorite recipes. I cook the chicken on the stove (I add a little Italian seasoning). Put a couple of cut up potatoes, two stalks of celery, a handful of baby carrots, and a handful of peas in a glass dish with some salt and pepper, and pats of butter, in the microwave for ten minutes. I mix up about a half stick of butter, 1/2 cup of cream, 1/2 cup of chicken broth, and about a tablespoon of flour. Heat this well until it gets barely thickened. I use pillsbury rolled pie crusts. Layer the chicken first, then the veggies, and top with the cream mixture. Top with another crust, then bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Delish! Before baking....

Then out of the oven....

I always decorate the top with three leaves from the leftover pie crust. Supper tonight!

Hanging out in the sewing room

I decided today to do a little cleaning in the sewing room. I usually do that after I finish a project, otherwise it can get really messy. Look at the dust I pulled out of the sewing machine!

Our quilt group is supposed to meet this week and I promised a member I'd piece her some batting from my scraps. I've done this before by zig zagging it together, but I found some iron on tape that works beautifully. I think I got it at Joanns.

Anyone else piece scraps of batting together?
